Zeebrugge
The Port of Zeebruggelargely owes its success to its unique strategic position:
- on the coasts of the North Sea, the busiest sea in the world.
- on the southern border of the delta of the three rivers: the Scheldt, the Maas and the Rhine, which have represented for centuries the main access route by sea to Western Europe.
- at the crossroads of the East-West / North-South cargo flow between the Continent and Great Britain, between Scandinavia and Southern Europe.
- at a short distance from the industrial areas and the major cities on the European Continent. Paris and the Ruhr area are eg. only at 300km distance from Zeebrugge.
